PFSs Detected in All 50 States

The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of potentially harmful chemicals, has been detected in all 50 states of the United States, according to data from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Northeastern University. PFAS chemicals are used in a variety of industrial and consumer products such as non-stick cookware, food packaging, and firefighting foam. The chemicals are known to persist in the environment and in human bodies, potentially causing health problems such as cancer, thyroid disease, and weakened immunity. The findings highlight the urgent need for action to regulate and reduce the use of PFAS chemicals in products to protect public health and the environment.
